(33,497 posts)he would select either Olympia Snowe or Susan Collins both of Maine.
Why?
yes, it would piss off the hard right but they really have nowhere else to go. But it would be interpeted by the media as a bold selection and one which would demonstrate he wasn't tied to the right wing. What he loses with the far right he might gain with independent and moderate voters.
Why he won't pick them?
Easy they are both pro-choice women who support Planned Parenthood and voted for the Obama Economic program.
If he goes with a woman it might be Kay Bailey Hutchinson.

(521 posts)It would also show every registered Republican that his primary campaign was an absolute lie. To be fair, it was.
But I ultimately agree with you. What he'll lose in far right support, he'd undoubtedly gain in independent voters. New England would be far more likely to go for him and states like my very own Ohio would probably be more endeared to him.
Now you have me hoping he does something bold like that. It would force the Republican party to finally advance a half-century and allow the extreme end of their base to fade away. Sadly, there's no reason to believe he's going to be bold.
