Sen. Amy Klobuchar's Gridiron dinner speech
Hey thanks everyone . . . Mr. President, distinguished guests, everyone else, what an honor to be here. And, in keeping with the current rules in Washington, my speech was supposed to be 12 minutes long but because of sequestration it was automatically cut to 10. See . . . we're all feeling the effects.
I don't want to be judgmental right from the start but did anyone else notice that Bobby Jindal lip-synced his entire remarks. Actually Bobby...you seemed to feel comfortable up here, right at home...how could you not? For you, the speech in the dark was just like being in New Orleans at the Super Bowl. Speaking of Louisiana, Governor, I was one of the Senators who got to preside over the impeachment hearing of one of your Louisiana federal judges. It was unprecedented...a five-day hearing...and the first judicial impeachment proceeding in the history of the United States where the words "lap dance" were used 33 times. It's true. I counted.

I know the Governor and the President and I agree on one thing: One day soon, maybe not next year, maybe not in our children's lifetime, but one day you will once again have a white male politician speak at the Gridiron.
Now I am under no illusions here. I know I was picked to speak tonight from a binderful of women. You first went for Michelle Obama . . . but she was doing the Oscars. And then you went to Hillary . . . but you know how she doesn't like to travel. And then to Susan Rice . . . but John McCain blocked her.
