The afterglow of President Obamas reelection and inauguration appears to have vanished as increasingly negative views among Americans about his stewardship of the economy have forced his public approval rating back down to the 50 percent mark, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
In December, just after he won a second term, Obama held an 18-percentage-point advantage over congressional Republicans on the question of whom the public trusted more to deal with the economy. Now, its a far more even split 44 percent to 40 percent, with a slight edge for the president but the share of those saying they have confidence in neither has ticked up into double digits.

Still, large majorities expect that the sequester will eventually damage the economy, the military and the governments ability to provide basic services. Most, 68 percent, say they would like the two sides to work together to come up with a deal to stop the cuts. The desire for cooperation is widely shared across party lines.
Asked who is responsible for the sequester, 47 percent say Republicans in Congress and 33 percent say Obama.

Polls matter little as President Obama is not running.
In fact, it makes Hillary that much better, and anyone in any office that much worse.

How unfortunate given that the chairman of the 2014 Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is the corporatist U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colorado).
Let's see what comes of Kentucky and actress Ashley Judd having a reported interest in running for the seat.

(20,450 posts)American people! They are uninformed and that's what's causing the problem.
People do want to see things get done and they don't really care who's fault it is. Yes, they dislike the Republicans but they also dislike the president. And that is because they are uninformed. If there weren't, then ALL the blame should be at the Republican Party's feet. No one should be blaming the president for any of this...if they are informed about how government works.

(20,450 posts)Democratic Party rank in file. Most of them are not liberal enough. They want bipartisanship. We need to attract more liberals. Add to the fact that most Americans are uninformed about the process, and there's your answer.
Republicans are expected to play politics.
Democrats are expected to BE bipartisan. They are expected to govern.
As long as the American people continue to hold this double standard and remain uninformed about how government truly works, the president will suffer and the Republicans will reap the benefits.
You wonder why the Republicans don't seem to care about their approval ratings? It's because they represent homogenous constituencies (especially in the House). They don't care because they know that we--including us here on DU--will blame the president FIRST!!

The Congress is just a reflection of our constipated minds!
