1. So much for "Enforce the laws that are on the books..."

When the Colorado Governor signs the bill, it will be a law on the books...

Enforce it, or get the hell out of law enforcement...

2. Remove them from office and let them retreat to their gun happy cabins.

Listen, you can end your suffering about all doubts involving your end of life decision.

Now I would prefer that you surrender your gun and let the dignity be drained from your pond.

But if you want to go down in a blaze and sink to those who can't be recovered, I support that vain effort too.

Go for it. I will select my survivors very selectively.

Sheriffs are elected officials with wide latitude on how to enforce non violent crimes.
If they're constituents approve of their actions, then they'll get elected time and time over.

Would you say the same thing for cops that refuse to enforce MJ laws?

There are no new gun laws being proposed which require them to enforce a thing.

they are elected officials and unless they commit a crime and are convicted, they can only be replaced by the ballot box.
If they're constituents like what they're doing, then chances are good that they'll be re-elected.

And Sheriffs have wide latitude on what to marshal their resources towards, these officials may decide that they can better serve the people by using their resources to enforce more serious offenses.
I'm not excusing it, just letting you know how Sheriffs work.

13. No, I'm not saying that,

they should enforce those laws, what I'm saying is that Sheriffs have alot more power then Police Chiefs and have a hell of alot of discretion on how to use their resources to enforce laws.

Police Chiefs are not elected officials, they are appointed and therefore are subject to the whims of politicians, whereas Sheriffs are elected and are answerable to the voters.
If the voters don't like the job they're doing, then they'll be defeated at the ballot box.

and County Commissioners, who also are not payed, are the ones who set the Sheriffs Office budget, but other than that, they have no say in how his Office applies enforcement to the laws.

11. He is right that the magazine ban is not enforceable
Tue Mar 19, 2013, 04:50 PM
Mar 2013

the law is not retroactive and places the burden of proof on law enforcement. Just how is he going to be able to prove a particular magazine was purchased after the ban was enacted?

That being said, he should not have come out and said he would not enforce the laws.
