North Carolina GOPers Push Bills To Limit Early Voting, Same-Day Registration
Republican lawmakers in North Carolina filed two bills to restrict early voting and same-day registration in the state, WRAL.com reported Thursday.
Senate Bill 428, filed by Sen. Jerry Tillman, R-Randolph, would cut the early voting period from two weeks to one and would eliminate same-day voter registration.
House Bill 451, filed by Rep. Edgar Starnes, R-Caldwell, goes even further. In addition to cutting early voting and same-day registration, it would also outlaw early voting on Sunday and straight-ticket voting.

And President Obama TODAY...
Obama signs executive order creating bipartisan commission to address voting issues
WASHINGTON President Barack Obama has signed an executive order establishing a presidential commission to address voting issues.
Obama announced his plans to create the commission last month in his State of the Union address. The top lawyer for Obamas re-election campaign, Bob Bauer, will co-chair the commission with the top lawyer for Republican Mitt Romneys campaign, Ben Ginsburg.
The goal is to address issues including long lines at the polls, voter registration and voter access.
The order gives the commission six months after its first public meeting to submit a report to Obama about ways to improve the voting experience.

(52,157 posts)3. a clarification on straight ticket voting
in NC a straight ticket vote doesn't include the President or VP. It also doesn't include any judges. That said, this will be a done deal sadly as they have veto proof majorities and the governorship. we are well and truely screwed here. Unless the DOJ gets them on section 5 (but only for our covered counties).
