Bill Clinton: Hillary ‘having a little fun’

Posted by Rachel Weiner on May 7, 2013 at 11:11 am

Hillary Clinton is enjoying her time as a private citizen and should get a break from presidential speculation, her husband said Tuesday.

“She’s taking a role in the [Clinton] foundation, she’s writing books, she’s having a little fun being a private citizen for the first time in 20 years,” former president Bill Clinton responded when asked about his wife’s plans.

Speaking at a “fiscal summit” put on by the anti-deficit Peter G. Peterson Foundation, Clinton described 2016 speculation as “the worst expenditure of our time.” Instead, he said, politicians and pundits should focus on ensuring that “whoever the next president is has an easier set of choices before him or her.”

Clinton also had a little advice for President Obama, who he urged to keep reaching out to congressional Republicans.

Tell me again why Hillary Clinton is going to be any better than Obama when it comes to protecting Social Security/Medicare.

Meet the new boss same as the old boss.

Clinton meandered on for an hour under questioning by PBS's Gwen Ifill, avoiding much talk of the deficit. Instead, he addressed income inequality, immigration reform, and foreign policy.

This is the first time since her youth that she doesn't have a job to worry about, she earned some time off. Bill had already said that he would like for her to stay out politics for a year and get some rest.
