It's a rhetorical question. I already know the answer.

(4,775 posts)It's right on. There's been an explosion of these 501(c)(4) "social welfare organizations" that take advantage of the tax breaks given for groups supposedly doing public service while instead they are funding an astroturf Tea Party movement that misdirects gullible people's anger over the economy into supporting an anti-government right-wing agenda that will allow big business to screw us over even more. And they get tax breaks for the money they screw us over with, isn't that special?
Seems to me, in this environment, ALL 501(c)(4) applications should be rigorously scrutinized, and many of them should be denied on the grounds that they're actually a money-laundering mechanism for a purely political agenda. We could afford to hire enough staff to do all of this review, since we'd save much more than that by requiring that this money is taxed.
Time to scale the reviews up, not down.
