Anti-choice lawmaker: No one understands women, women “don’t even understand themselves”

Nebraska state Sen. Bill Kintner says he doesn't understand women, but has no problem making laws for them

BY KATIE MCDONOUGH

In an “in his own words” questionnaire for Nebraska’s Journal Star on Tuesday, state Sen. Bill Kintner revealed how the “moral absolutes of Christianity” inform everything he does, particularly, he is quick to note, his anti-choice political views.

Another book Kintner appears to take as literally as the Bible: “Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus.”

When asked what he would consider his “biggest mystery,” Kintner replied: “Women. No one understands them. They don’t even understand themselves. Books and books and books have been written about it, and no one understands it.”

But, Kintner adds, he does not suffer from the same crippling lack of self-knowledge as the more mysterious half of the population: “Men are very easy to understand. Very basic, very simple,” he said.

Like when we want morons like this to stay out of our healthcare choices!

And how do men feel about being classified as "simple"? That would not be a compliment to me.

Funny thing is, I think choice is much more simple than lawmakers want to make it. We simply want to make our own choices about our bodies and we don't want the government involved. Simple right?

needs to stop merely using them for comfort and convenience and get to know them as human beings. Such men might be very surprised to find out how easy we can make the process.

Then again, such males would rather stand around with their fellows and opine in pontifical tones that they know what women want and need better than women do, they're such silly and emotional creatures without senses of humor.

depth of his relationship with his wife. It sounds like they have a marriage of convenience, not emotional intimacy.

mostly specific?

IMO the understanding of women has nothing to do with the sex. It is the type of relationship. Any gays or lesbians that have difficulties because they don't take time to listen to their spouse? Or how about parents with their teenagers? And the same could be said of teenagers with their parents. If you strip away the gender you likely will see that it has little to do with gender.

Is so varied and well... human, that it takes a little more than "One size fits all" thinking to work things out. Treat women as people not as a category.
