2 PA Blue-Dog Dem Reps Lose Tonight in Primaries

Incumbent Congressman Tim Holden has just lost in the 17th district, defeated by Matthew Cartwright. This district got significantly bluer in re-districting and Cartwright is well-known in the new portions of the district. Incumbent Congressman Jason Altmire has also conceded in a tight-race to incumbent Congressman Marc Critz. Due to re-districting and PA losing a congressional seat, these two incumbents were forced into the same district. Both Altmire and Holden voted against the Affordable Health Care act.

Cartwright is well-known, and watching his speech right now appears to be charismatic and ready to fight. In addition, this is now a bigger Obama district, so good presidential turn-out should do it. Similarly, Critz should also be helped by Obama, and the fact that Critz is very popular in his base of the new district. He got 90% of the vote tonight in his home county tonight.

Before that, it was Rick Santorum's. I haven't anything about the person that primaried Altmire. Hopefully, he or she is a Progressive!

However, it's a lot of conservative "I've got mine, screw you" types. You know the type - their parents belonged to a Union, put them through college, and now they think that they made it "on their own."

He is a solid pro-labor Democrat, although more socially conservative. Critz had huge labor backing, especially in his portions of the new district, to give him the upset tonight.
