Don’t Blame Obamacare For Job & Insurance Losses, It’s Corporate Greed

Every American should be tired of taking the brunt of an economic downturn they were not responsible for. Every American should be tired of seeing record corporate profits as wages stagnate or fall.

UPS just announced that it will be dropping working spouses who can get insurance from their own employers. In defense of UPS on this particular stance, paying for the working spouses’ benefits is tantamount to UPS subsidizing the spouses’ employers who forfeits the cost of insuring that spouse. That isn’t fair. In a fair world, since family plans are less expensive than individual plans generally, both companies should be responsible for the cost of the family plan. This is another clear reason for Medicare for all, a single payer system that removes the employer from the health insurance business.

That said, the reality is that this is not new. UPS dishonestly attributes their action to Obamacare when it is likely a cost saving action they would have undertaken as health care costs rose with or without Obamacare. The act of attributing it to Obamacare is evil as it attempts to blame and foment a hatred for a law based on a lie even as the law in the aggregate helps millions of Americans and save lives.

It is a fact that

Service jobs have been part time for years with no benefits. When I went looking to go back to work in the 90s, do you know how many Morning and Afternoon Receptionist jobs there were? No benefits (ACA in the 90s???) and low hourly wages. Only difference is now they want a COLLEGE DEGREE for these low wage jobs!

You cannot fool us older people with this one. Yes, corporate (and small business) GREED.

I wish someone had thought of it back in 2008 so that Obama would have had an opportunity to consider it.

Instead, he was stuck in meetings with insurance company lobbyist.

Oh well.

All planned out in the Enron 2.0 meetings.

Proof? All the President had to do was say "Cut that out!"

And, our rates are going up. Plus, part time workers are not going to be covered any longer. The part timers will be steered towards the insurance market place for coverage. They are blaming the implementation of Obama Care as the reason, stating that health care will cost more.
My husband currently is under my insurance because it saves us about three hundred dollars a month. My husband's company bases his rates (so far) on income. We are middle class and this additional cost will hurt us. I can't help but feeling corporations and other large companies and organizations are taking advantage, and are using the Health Care Reform law as cover for their greed.
