John Boehner Tells House Republicans That They Can Blow Off Briefing on Syria

John Boehner Tells House Republicans That They Can Blow Off Briefing on Syria

While Senate Democrats are already at work on Syria, drafting new language for an authorization, Boehner and Cantor, the top two House Republicans, didn’t show up to the classified Syria briefing top administration officials gave for House members on Sunday.

Boehner told House Republicans not to worry if they couldn’t make it because there will be many more.

In April, Cantor urged all members to attend a classified briefing on Syria, but now that it’s imminent that the House actually needs to vote on it, Boehner told everyone not to worry about it because there will be others:

Speaker John Boehner’s (R-Ohio) office said Saturday that administration officials will offer a classified briefing to House members on Sunday afternoon.

The Speaker’s office added that “many classified briefings” will be offered for members who are not in Washington and will be unable to attend Sunday’s briefing.

Why do we bother with small timers like this? Honestly, this is why I don't include him in the Top 10 anymore.

I don't support using force in Syria without UN backing but I also don't support our representatives shirking important responsibilities.

I certainly don't support the speaker of the house advocating that representatives not do their jobs. Even if the White House fills its briefs with nothing but lies, it is the duty of our representatives to hear those lies and call them out.

If there are any discrepancies between the briefings, the Repukes will impeach Obama for attempting to mislead Congress.

regarding Syria will have a positive effect for Syria, some good may come of this sad situation.
It is becoming clear that when left to congress, as it should be, republicans will be, well, republicans.
Rather than act in the country's interest or even humanitarian interest, republicans will continue to play petty politics and look only for ways to serve the profit interests of the GOP co. stakeholders.

Once again republicans will prove that they are in fact the more dangerous enemy. As they seek only political advantage it will become fair to ask; what if this were Canada that was in difficulty.
What if it were an American city such as New Orleans or Detroit or Benton Harbor.

This may become the turning point where republicans show their true worth.
We know what that is.

Calling the current House of Representatives the "Do Nothing House" is giving them too much credit.
