Biden attacks 'Neanderthal' House Republicans for blocking violence against women bill

Biden attacks ‘Neanderthal’ House Republicans for blocking violence against women bill

US Vice President Joe Biden, known as being prone to gaffes now and then, has compared some Republican lawmakers to Neanderthal cavemen.

Biden was speaking Thursday night at a reception marking the anniversary of a law designed to fight violence against women.

Biden first drafted and defended the law 19 years ago as a US senator. It was renewed this year but only after a months long fight in Congress, particularly in the House of Representatives, which is controlled by the Republicans.

Biden said he was stunned that there had been debate on the law.

“I’m going to say something outrageous,” Biden said.

“The idea we still had to fight? We had to fight to reauthorize?” he mused. Biden blamed “this sort of Neanderthal crowd” in the House for stalling the legislation.

...and I've included a link to a Mother Jones feature on party-line approaches to VAWA. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) voted to reauthorize the act. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) did not.

notwithstanding the press going ape over some of the things biden says, i don't think either the "big f*cking deal" or the "neanderthal" lines were mistakes.

they caused a stir, but that doesn't mean it's a mistake. sometimes free press is a good thing.

7. Why does the article mention gaffes in a story where he makes none?

Even Raw Story doesn't seem to be able to free itself from stereotypes that spring from MSM pundits using the Lenin rule (A lie, shouted often enough and loud enough, becomes the truth).
