Why is the Democratic party sitting on their hands when it comes to ACA messaging?

It is just right around the corner and yet what efforts are being done to inform the public? It is well documented that Republican governors are trying to trap information from reaching citizens that live in these states (eg Florida). So, why isn't the federal government doing more to spread the message?

Promoting something heavily before all the bugs are worked out can result in
bad PR which may be very difficult to recover from.

Much of the information will have to be done on a state by state basis, since each state (except those who didn't set up exchanges) will have their own exchange info. Some states are doing better than others, and each state is doing it differently--some with general TV ads, some with more targeted community outreach. Here's an article complaining Illinois hasn't done enough:

At the Minnesota State Fair last month, state employees handed out thousands of paperboard fans bearing pictures of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox to promote Minnesota's health insurance marketplace.

Over Connecticut beaches this summer, airplanes flew banners emblazoned with "Get Covered!" as teams below distributed free sunscreen packets as part of the state's campaign to get more of its residents insured under the Affordable Care Act.

In Colorado, Oregon and a handful of other states, radio and TV spots have been running for weeks encouraging the uninsured to seek health coverage starting Oct. 1.

In Illinois so far? Mostly silence.

Less than three weeks before the online market where consumers can compare and buy private health insurance plans is set to open, the major portion of a $35 million marketing and advertising plan has yet to launch, leaving many consumers in the dark about the benefits they may be eligible to start receiving in January.

It then explains the state/federal advertising efforts:

The federal government has yet to kick off the brunt of its marketing and educational campaign. It won't begin running the majority of its advertisements until open enrollment in health insurance plans begins next month, officials said.

In Illinois, state officials say small-scale education and outreach campaigns launched weeks ago throughout the state, conducted mostly by dozens of community organizations that received state and federal grants in July and August.

Most efforts have focused on deploying small teams at community events like congressional town halls and presentations to local chambers of commerce, and on enrolling and training the 1,200 or so paid experts who will help explain health insurance and assist consumers in signing up for plans.

"We're laying the foundation with the public and making sure they're educated before we layer on marketing and advertising," said Jennifer Koehler, director of the Illinois Health Insurance Marketplace, the state agency running the health insurance expansion. "This is really about boots on the ground and one-on-one interaction."

I've looked at the California options for my 26 year old daughter and it's so damn confusing I've almost given up.

There is no clear positive explanation anywhere I could find.
Just pages and pages of percentages and money amounts that all look scary and intimidating.
And all the final results come out with a depressingly high value that sounds like it will be money poorly spent for a young healthy 20's person.

I wish they'd get some skillful advertising creative types to come up with a clear explanation that doesn't sound like a corporate financial report.

I think it's kind of confusing, too. I think they've done a poor job of explaining and promoting it, and a poor job of debunking some of the myths.

drowns us out. I see Obama out there day in and day out, screaming his lungs out. Are his daily speeches and town halls every aired on TV? Are they ever shown on the evening news? How much of what is shown is actually of substance?

And where are the other Democratic leaders? I feel so bad for the president because he's out there by himself. He has no help. Where's Biden? Where's Pelosi? Where's Reid? Where are the other Democrats helping him?

This was the same in 2010! Many people were claiming that Obama wasn't out there selling his accomplishments and defending Obamacare. That simply was not true! It was a flat-out lie. Obama was out there everyday for a few years while the Teabaggers were going to Town Halls raising hell, Obama was traveling around the country trying to explain the law, trying to tout the stimulus and all the jobs that were gained. The Democrats were nowhere to be found. He was out there on his own. Spitting out a spleen! It simply was not true that there was no narrative.

or improve such that it circumvents what the media is doing to obstruct the message on the ACA. Twitter, youtube, facebook, etc is what I would tell the Obama administration to do. It worked during both re-election campaigns so why no try those mediums instead?

The opposition presents no evidence at all for their claims.
They just say it is horrible.
That's the kind of message that gets through.

All we need to hear is how it will help people.
We don't need to hear details of the plan everyday, just how it will help.
But people need to hear it every day, several times a day.

or, better question,

why does every state need different
computer-program-coding as the
only thing different between states
is the name of the states?

please be as specific as you can be.

per state,
applicant inputs are...
Name, age, gender, smoker y/n, (more for a family).
-->

gets choices of bronze..s...g...platinum.-->
then gets choice of Insurance company
and price. -->

put in estimated 2014 income.-->
gets final price.-->
Buy or not buy. (plus payment arrangements)

Is that so hard?
