McCaskill: Cruz Doesn't Understand The Moral Of 'Green Eggs And Ham

CATHERINE THOMPSON – SEPTEMBER 25, 2013, 9:22 AM EDT

Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) on Wednesday argued that if Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) understood the moral of Dr. Seuss' "Green Eggs and Ham," he would wait to see how Obamacare performs before publicly decrying the health care law.

During the sixth hour of his extended remarks against the Affordable Care Act Tuesday night on the Senate floor, Cruz read the Dr. Seuss story in full to his two daughters in Texas watching the live feed of their father via CSPAN.

"I thought it was interesting that Ted Cruz used 'Green Eggs and Ham,'" McCaskill said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe." "I went to the University of Missouri, I did not go to Harvard, but my daughter texted me this morning and said 'Mom, does he not know the point of the story?' It's that you can't knock things until you try it."

Cruz said after he finished reading the story that the book "has some applicability, as curious as it may sound, to the Obamcare debate," adding that Americans "did not like green eggs and ham, and they did not like Obamacare either."

McCaskill thought it was "ironic" for Cruz to read the story during his faux-filibuster, since she said those who read the law know that private insurance companies operate on its health care exchanges.

Even if he read the ACA, he would not have understood it.

I was expecting this boring, bland midwesterner, but she was sharp, focused, very nice, and quite down to earth. She said flat out that she had no business at all expecting to get re-elected until the Republicans were stupid enough to put up "legitimate rape" Tod Akin against her.

That was all that was needed to participate in this pic at her swearing-in party at her Senate office in DC last January:

that when Canada exiled Cruz to Texas, they improved the average IQ of both Canada & Texas.

But I am far above making such a cheapshot.

That is one of the most fun books to read to kids and it has a very natural rhythm to it that the author intended. McCaskill's daughter made a great point.

Her point is totally on target - can we start the idea that Cruz has a voice in his head suggesting that his real fear is that -- like green eggs and ham - which SaM I AM hated as Cruz hates ACA - when Sam I AM actually tried them - his response was that he liked them everywhere.

He misses what is obvious in the last 20 or so lines - after he tries them, he saYs:

" Say!
I like green eggs and ham!
I do!! I like them, Sam-I-am!
And I would eat them in a boat!
And I would eat them with a goat...
And I will eat them in the rain.
And in the dark. And on a train.
And in a car. And in a tree.
They are so good so good you see!"

In fact - he LIKES Green eggs and ham with the same passion he disliked them at the beginning.

Could he have picked a book that was better than this at countering all his "serious" nonsense?
