New Virginia Governor's Poll: McAuliffe 45%-Cuccinelli 38%

"Democrat Terry McAuliffe holds a 7-point lead over Republican Ken Cuccinelli in Virginia's gubernatorial election, according to a poll released today by the Wason Center for Public Policy at Christopher Newport University. With less than a week to Election Day, McAuliffe leads Cuccinelli among likely voters, 45 percent to 38 percent. The Libertarian candidate, Robert Sarvis, maintains a significant share of likely voters: 10 percent -- more than two-thirds of whom say they are casting a protest vote against the major-party candidates. His lead is +11 among registered voters. That shows the margin of victory for McAuliffe will depend on the size of turnout. He has a nice 51-35 lead among women voters.

One thing that is a certainty: a LOT of Texas eyes will be on Virginia, getting ready for the gubernatorial election next year.

Texas Republicans did NOT make the same mistake and nominate a crazy (by Texas standards, anyway) man for their candidate.

On the other hand, with Wendy Davis, Texas Democrats will not nominate a candidate many in the party feel lukewarm about. We are enthusiastic about Wendy to the point of being electrified. Matt Angle, Aimee Boone, Lisa Blue and the rest of the Texas Democrats will not have anywhere near the uphill battle in fundraising for Wendy as Bill White did last time.
