In 76 and 80 we had Carter. In 88 we had Bentsen for VP. In 92 and 96 we had Clinton/Gore, in 2000 we had Gore. In 72 we also had Shriver as VP. That is 9 southerners out of 24 slots since 68.

Not a salvation, but since everybody's already trotting out everybody else for 2016, I thought I'd make a vote for ultimate order, or chaos, whichever point of view you take.
We all know who wins this one.
On second thought. Why don't we focus on 2014 and worry about 2016, and Cthulhu, when it becomes evident that something's resolved.
