(53,661 posts)T-MAC appears to be the new VA governor; and it's still too close to call in the AG race. That GOP needs to be defeated, along with the Lt.Gov if it's the one I"m thinking of - the one who wanted all women to report to the government about their pregnancies?
We can't let this continue:
And some good news:
Abortion Providers Appeal to U.S. Supreme Court

That's in the Texas group. Supposed to be in GD now, but I can't find it. This needs our support!
Thanks for the good news, Sheshe!

Mixed race kids are the children of the future.
(Mine are half Japanese. Multi-cultural as well as multi-racial.)

(54,047 posts)After all, we have a mixed-race president.
My brother's kids are half Japanese, too, though they never got much of Japanese culture, as their mom never spoke Japanese to them. Growing up, they regretted that mightily, especially since they have nothing at all in common with their Japanese cousins except looks.
My kids are completely bi-cultural. My wife is German, and we always spoke to our kids in our own languages from the moment they were born. Now they are completely bi-lingual and bi-cultural. They speak American English and German so perfectly that no one hearing them speak the one ever suspects they are also completely at home in the other.

(18,571 posts)But she needed to learn English more than they needed Japanese so she couldn't do much of that. My daughter has been learning some Japanese herself and my son plans to soon. We do have mixed cultural customs at home and eat a lot of home cooked Japanese meals. My wife also watches mainly Japanese TV on her laptop from a Slingbox connected to her sister's cable TV in Tokyo.

(54,047 posts)My kids, when they were little, used to watch Sesame Street in English and German, and after a while, they hardly noticed the difference.

(18,571 posts)My wife did watch American TV until a year or so ago when I got her the Slingbox.
Now she keeps that on all the time.
She also has a Kindle and reads books from Amazon Japan.
Her English is good today, she's been here over 20 years, but she still studies books on idioms.

(14,691 posts)this will be the first time in 20 years we'll have a happily married couple in Gracie Mansion.
Generalissimo Giuliani had a very messy divorce while mayor - he cheated on his wife, a local TV news anchor (Donna Hanover) and she threw him out of the official residence a/k/a Gracie Mansion. Poor homeless Rudy then moved in with one of his big donors. Rudy eventually married his mistress.
Bloomberg was already divorced when elected (he has a grown daughter) and has a longtime girlfriend. Bloomie didn't move to Gracie Mansion when first elected but chose to stay put in his million dollar brownstone in the Upper East Side. To his credit, since he has so much money he didn't accept a salary but served for $1.00 a year.
