2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDem Mark Herring Wins VA AG
The last of the votes to be tallied in Virginia, prior to the certification deadline at 11:59pm ET tonight is done. With the Fairfax County provisional ballots optically-scanned and added to the totals, it appears that the Democratic candidate Mark Herring will be declared the "winner" for now, by just 163 votes --- out of more than 2.2 million cast --- over Republican Mark Obenshain.

Will Cucinelli be excused from his legal role in this recount? Or has he already?

He does not have to step down by law. What his role is I am not sure but by law he can do whatever

The Dems will hopefully continue the fight for any provisional ballots which were not accepted due

"Defeated candidates have 10 days from when a vote is certified Nov. 25 this year to request a court-supervised recount they pay for unless the vote difference is less than 0.5 percent of the total votes cast. The public pays the tab in that case. Herring was ahead of Obenshain by a one-hundredth of a percentage point as of midday Tuesday."

Does his change of the counting rules come into play beyond the point of the official count? Just curious, since I don't know details about the counting struggle up to now.

(71,265 posts)5. He does not have to step down by law. What his role is I am not sure but by law he can do whatever
his role is. Of course he will cheat and do what he can to steal it and I hope they expose him for the fraud he is.

(3,335 posts)9. The Dems will hopefully continue the fight for any provisional ballots which were not accepted due
to changes in the rules after the ballots were cast. This race is too close for comfort. Every vote cast should be counted.

Now, let the recount begin and hope that Herring's vote total increases.
