We always make threats and never follow thru. You know that if and when the GOP gets a Senate majority and there is a GOP president & the Dems were doing the very same things (as unlikely as that thought is) as the GOP does to undermine President Obama that a GOP senate wouldn't hesitate to change the rules.

(14,449 posts)Both parties have had majorities in the Senate in recent times and neither party has changed the rules. I am not sure what either party is afraid of.

(99 posts)I believe we should change it, to the extent that there is a limit each year on how many nominees can be blocked. That way they would save their objections only for the people the opposing party is most against and the Pres can get on with it after what... 5 years!

(65,304 posts)regain the Senate majority in the future. The minute the Dems try to use it, however reasonably, the Repubs will nuke it. Guaranteed.
Everything the Repubs have done has shown absolutely no respect for traditional rules of Senate or House functioning so there is no point in to trying to save the filibuster to protect a Dem minority in the fiuture, because the Repubs WILL nuke it if they are in charge!
