Ted Cruz reveals he’s a thin-skinned hypocrite

The Texas senator gets huffy with CNN, then reveals his bogus, anti-states’ rights plan to replace the ACA

JOAN WALSH

Sen. Ted Cruz pretends to be a tough guy, but mostly he spends his time trashing Democrats in front of adoring right-wing crowds and conservative journalists. On Wednesday he sat down with CNN’s Chris Cuomo – you didn’t expect him to go to MSNBC, did you? – and showed himself to be incredibly thin-skinned when pressed just a little on how he would replace the Affordable Care Act he wants to repeal. It was an interesting window on Cruz’s temperament as well as his cynical, threadbare “policy” agenda.

Cuomo asked Cruz how he would replace the law he inveighs against, and as usual, Cruz dodged the question and kept on inveighing instead. Cuomo followed up. “You don’t think that you have a responsibility as a U.S. senator to do better than that, in terms of offering a solution for what to do next?” he asked.

And Cruz shot back: “Well, I appreciate your trying to lecture me in the morning.”

Cuomo didn’t leave it there....

The article and the quotations give a hint at what Cruz was doing, but for the full effect you have to go to the transcript (See link below). It's clear that Cruz came out prepared to repeat the figure of 5 million people reportedly losing their health care plans, but Cuomo comes right back at him with the observation that tens of millions didn't have insurance and the Affordable Care Act is meant to address that, whereupon Cruz ups the ante and claims that hundreds of millions of Americans are at risk of losing their health insurance.

I have to give credit to Cuomo for touching on pre-existing conditions and the power wielded by insurers. Cruz, somewhat predictably, trots out another canned phrase about wanting to empower consumers rather than Washington bureaucrats. Of course that's all marlarkey, to use a Bidenism. Cruz is on record as wanting to raise the eligibility age for Medicare and use a market-based system (Guess he missed all those bankruptcy figures).

See link below for Cruz positions and quotes.

"reveals" should be spelled "confirms".

This was "revealed" much, much earlier.
