Brit Hume: Boehner Finally ‘Strong Enough’ to Take On Tea Party, Now McConnell Can’t

Despite the MSM's efforts to rehabilitate the Republican party, the fact that Fox News acknowledges that McConnell must continue to the collective ass of the ultra right underscores how the Republican has not changed at all.

Fox News political analyst Brit Hume told Fox News Sunday’s Chris Wallace that just as House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) had gotten strong enough to take on outside conservative groups, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has a tea party primary challenger keeping him from doing so.

“Boehner was not strong enough to do that during the round of negotiations that led to the shutdown,” Hume said. “So he let them have their way, and they tried this defund strategy, it led to the shutdown. He feared it’d be unpopular, which indeed it turned out to be, and they’d get nothing out of it, which is exactly what happened. I think a lot of his members learned their lessons, and now he’s willing to take them on.”

“But look at what’s happening in the Senate,” he continued. “Mitch McConnell, who may be less sympathetic to these groups than Boehner is, is not going to vote for this budget bill, because he’s got a primary challenger, and that’s where these groups have their effect.”

“There is a war within the Republican Party,” Hume explained. “There’s a certain set of outside groups which have opposed so many things that the Republicans have tried to do and actually pass, and who are satisfied with nothing that we could ever get through the Senate or past the President, and there’s enough people in the country with money in their pockets who want to spend on politics, and who will keep these groups flush if they will keep up their opposition.”

1. I hope folks aren't buying into this...

Boehner is a MODERATE Republican; because he isn't. Boehner's disagreement with the Tea Party is about strategy, not policy; he agrees with them on issues, just not on how to accomplish their goals

4. After leading the teabaggers and other crazies in shutting down the government and threatening

U.S. default, Boehner is now acting like he wasn’t their leader through it all. He had a lot of chances to bring a vote to the floor to stop the shutdown but kept up the fight with his teabagger followers. There is no "daylight" between him and the teabaggers. That little "complaint" of his recently was just a show for TV and the stupid political reporters.
