BREAKING: Mark Obenshain to Concede Virginia AG Race Later Today!

Awesome news - sweep for (statewide) Virginia Dems in Virginia, as we now hold the following positions: both U.S. Senators, Governor, Lt. Governor, and Attorney General. Now, we need to work on taking back the House of Delegates, but for now, let's just celebrate the great news!

P.S. Courtesy of Politico, a great (ironic) image for this one.

This is very important for Virginia, the AG has a lot of power in the state. Obenshain showed a lot of class in his concession, that is to be commended, especially after the "Tyranny of Cuccinnelli", a miscreant who never showed any class.

Unfortunately, the state House of Delegates remains solidly Teaparty and, in reality, under the control of the "Old Virginni" plantation plutocracy. Still, this is great news.

If this had all been touch screen the final count may have remained extremely close and it would have made it more likely the loser would have contested the result - actual recounts are just not possible with touch screen.

But with paper, the ballots can be scanned, and under votes examined by hand. People sometimes do not mark the box enough for the scanner but do mark it enough for visual confirmation. By contrast, someone fails to touch their selection properly on a touch screen and they may or may not notice that their vote was not recorded on the summary screen. Plus scanner data much harder to hack because the ballots are there to recheck the results in each precinct.

We need paper ballots and scanners nationwide by 2016!

Released a few minutes ago by Mark Herring, Attorney General (elect)

________________________________________________________________________________________

It’s official (again)! The court just certified that we won by 907 votes!

Senator Obenshain called earlier to congratulate me on our victory and offer his support as we transition into the Attorney General’s office. His kind words mean a great deal to me and I want to thank the Senator for running a spirited campaign. I wish him and his family nothing but the best as we head into the holidays.

And of course, I must take this opportunity to once again thank each and every one of you for being such a critical part of this team. Last year, when we kicked off this race, I said I couldn’t be prouder to have you standing with me.

I was wrong. I’m so much prouder now than I ever could have imagined. Because of you, this campaign grew into a true grassroots movement. You stood by my side through the highs and the lows, and I could not have done any of this without you.

Now, I’m going to do everything I can to make you proud, and together, we’re going to do great things for Virginia. Starting today - right now – we get to work building an Attorney General’s office that fights for all Virginians.

Once again, on behalf of my family and from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Mark

a great win for the Dems!!!!
And also 10,000 points for democracy that Obenshain is not following through on the threat of a "contest" (basically, having the Republican legislature basically overthrow the results of the popular vote(
