I can't believe today how back in the day I bought a $500 phono cartridge for my turntable, just so I could listen to the intentional distortion in that recording (and many others like it), reproduced *exactly* as it was recorded!

Sounds great through my old stereo speakers - didn't even have to buy new ones.

You are smart. You have everything you need to listen in the best way to "music" that is intentionally distorted by means of the electronics used in it's amplification. Much of the rock music back in that day was intentionally recorded in exactly the same manner. Listening to your post enabled me to remember all of which I had forgotten.

creativity. Like basically overloading your amp, or poking holes in it - which was a not-unheard-of technique back in the 50's (think "Rocket 88&quot and which Dave Davies also utilized on "You Really Got Me," thus predicting who knows how many genres - hard rock, punk rock, power pop.

And I realize I know an awful lot about "old" music for a 29-year-old, but I guess I also have the benefit of hindsight.

Well I lay my head on the railroad track
Waiting on the Double E
But the train don't run by here no more
Poor poor pitiful me

Poor poor pitiful me
Poor poor pitiful me
Oh these boys won't let me be
Lord have mercy on me
Woe woe is me

Well I met a man out in Hollywood
Now I ain't naming names
Well he really worked me over good
Just like Jesse James
Yes he really worked me over good
He was a credit to his gender
Put me through some changes Lord
Sort of like a Waring blender

Poor poor pitiful me
Poor poor pitiful me
Oh these boys won't let me be
Lord have mercy on me
Woe woe is me

Well I met a boy in the Vieux Carres
Down in Yokohama
He picked me up and he threw me down
He said "Please don't hurt me Mama"

Poor poor pitiful me
Poor poor pitiful me
Oh these boys won't let me be
Lord have mercy on me
Woe woe is me

Poor poor poor me
Poor poor pitiful me
Poor poor poor me
Poor poor pitiful me
Poor poor poor me
Poor poor pitiful me

You jump in front of my car when you,
You know all the time that
Ninety miles an hour, girl, is the speed I drive
You tell me it's alright, you don't mind a little pain
You say you just want me to take you for a ride

You're just like crosstown traffic
So hard to get through to you
Crosstown traffic
I don't need to run over you
Crosstown traffic
All you do is slow me down
And I'm tryin' to get on the other side of town

I'm not the only soul who's accused of hit and run
Tire tracks all across your back
I can see you had your fun
But darlin' can't you see my signals turn from green to red
And with you I can see a traffic jam straight up ahead

You're just like crosstown traffic
So hard to get through to you
Crosstown traffic
I don't need to run over you
Crosstown traffic
All you do is slow me down
And I got better things on the other side of town
