Senator Ted Cruz attacks Obama for not locking up marijuana users in Colorado

By Eric W. Dolan
Friday, January 10, 2014 15:20 EST

Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas on Friday criticized President Barack Obama for not arresting people in Colorado who violated federal law by using marijuana.

“A whole lot of folks now are talking about legalizing pot. The brownies you had this morning, provided by the state of Colorado,” he jokingly said during his keynote speech at Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Policy Orientation.

“And you can make arguments on that issue,” Cruz continued. “You can make reasonable arguments on that issue. The president earlier this past year announced the Department of Justice is going to stop prosecuting certain drug crimes. Didn’t change the law.”

Voters in Colorado and Washington state voted to legalize the recreational use of marijuana in 2013, but federal law still prohibits the use of the drug. The Department of Justice announced in August of 2013 that it would not target for arrest adults who used marijuana in compliance with state laws.

Cruz said the Obama administration should continue imprisoning people for using marijuana until federal law is changed.

“You can go to Congress, you can get a conversation, you could get Democrats and Republicans who would say, ‘We ought to change our drug policy in some way,’ and you could have a real conversation, you could have hearings, you could look at the problem, you could discuss commonsense changes that maybe should happen or shouldn’t happen. This president didn’t do that. He just said, ‘The laws say one thing’ — and mind you these are criminal laws, these are laws that say if you do ‘X, Y, and Z’ you will go to prison. The president announced, ‘No, you won’t.’”

Don't the "people" know more about their state than some Canadian buffoon. What a hypocrite. He's willing to go state by state to get rid of abortion but doesn't want states to choose to legalize Marijuana.

Encourage your fellow Republicans to answer the legislation proposed by Polis and Blumenauer last year.

Let's get everyone on record to see where they stand on this issue.

http://polis.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=318723

The Republicans knew this moment was coming and they should've addressed the issues before the changes in the state laws were implemented.

I guess they were too busy with the attempt to get the U.S. to default on its debt. Even the freaking IMF thinks Republicans are too stupid to govern.

I'm sure they'll do the right thing on this issue too.

What happened to "individual liberty" or "personal freedom"? I guess if they don't feed into the overarching goal of a dominionist takeover of the U.S., the King of the Seventh Mountain is suddenly a fan of wasteful deficit spending and big government.

Cruz is using the guise of potential presidential aspirations the same way that Palin and Trump do, to bolster his public profile and fortify the cottage industry that can be described as being Ted Cruz. You don't go out of your way out on a limb to alienate the majority of Americans who now support legalizing marijuana, a majority that all reason suggests will only get larger in coming years. in order to advance your presidential aspirations. You only do that to advance your Glenn Beck aspirations. Cruz wants to be the go to guy for the core hard right minority in America, with all of the long term financial benefits that come with that.

Grace is not a fan of the law, telling Baldwin she thinks that legalizing marijuana for recreational use is a "horrible idea." Grace said that she wouldn't want anyone on pot to take care of her kids or drive a cab. She then went for the jugular, claiming that anyone who disagreed with her was "lethargic, sitting on the sofa, eating chips ... fat and lazy."

Sure sounds like him to me

Fail.

41. Cruz Is Even More Evil Than Joe McCarthy Was
Mon Jan 13, 2014, 11:43 PM
Jan 2014

And, yes, I said that - I know how evil McCarthy was and I also know that Cruz is much more evil than McCarthy could have ever thought of being. Cruz knows absolutely nothing. He and his kind think that everyone who smokes pot, has sex in anything other than the missionary position, has sex with anyone other than an opposite gender spouse, anyone who wants birth control pills, anyone who might want an abortion, anyone who wants public education to teach facts not religious fantasies, and the list goes on and on for about a million miles, are the truly evil people in the world and shouldn't be allowed to do anything. Yeah, I know, that was a run-on sentence without proper punctuation (lol).

I just wish there was some way that we could rid this nation totally once and for all of all of these cretins of the right wing, especially the teabaggers. They are all useless wastes of space.
