The real problem with the Chris Christie scandal?

People of our political persuasion would naturally tend to think this is a huge downfall if not the end of Christie's political career.

I worry that just the opposite is true. I spend a lot of time observing conservative political forums, and this thing is actually energizing the wingnuts to get behind him. Many who hated him before for not being conservative enough, to the point of calling him a closet Democrat, are beginning to fall in line on his side.

He could become a political martyr to conservatives that will dwarf Sarah Palin, and let's face it, he's a lot smarter than her, and more experienced at politics.

Maybe I'm just crazy imagining all this, is anyone else thinking this way? Stranger things have happened in politics. Your opinions on this topic will be appreciated.

2. I sure don't think you're crazy for thinking this. Look at the people

who still think Palin is da bomb. (A good part of that is sexual, I admit, and Christie won't get that demographic.)

However, the Pub tendency to vote Pub and defend Pub no matter what is a feature of cults/authoritarianism/religion anywhere in the world and any time in history. It depends on generated emotion, not rationality.

Rationality will only come back in fashion when cultish emotion takes us to such a bad end that rationality takes back over. We're in for a rough road ahead.

But I think the harder he gets hit, the more the troops will rally around him. If he gets impeached, I could see him having the highest rated show on Fox News.

more extrema Teapublicans.
If he plays his cards right they will forgive him for trying to do something useful about hurricane recovery.
If Karl Rove throws enough KochCorprat cash at giving this the right spin, the Tepublicans WILL see Christie as a martyred hero.

In the Teapublican reality, viscous is a virtue. Especially if you get away with it.
Think David Vitter.
Think Mark Sanford.
Think Scott................

able to run in 2016, with most of America shrugging at this "bridge thing" they heard about one time (at band camp).

Christie is a lawyer. He has already had months to prepare his alibi.

With not all of the information released and plenty of people to get called to testify we don't know enough.

10. Are Freepers part of the wingnuts?

If so, your presumption is off. They do not like Christie and blame his whole plight on cozying up to Obama during Sandy....and they say it serves him right. It should serve as a lesson to all other conservatives to hold tight to their platform of no cooperation. Not one word about the bridge closer or the veracity of that whole email disclosure...not one-on the thread I was reading.

Then of course there was the constant smattering of Benghazzi....gawd they sound stupid.

more of a fringe to me, incapable of electing anyone on their own, except in gerrymandered congressional districts. I used the term "wingnuts", perhaps incorrectly, to just mean most republicans.

Of course, no one wins the presidential election without the independents. Christie has been polling strong in this area, my only hope is he will take a hit with them.

I have seen first hand and on some conservative forums people who used to hate him now defending him. Time will tell.
