I just Tweeted Debbie Wasserman Schultz on what is going on with the DNC with voter ID registration

Because so far I haven't heard NOTHING the DNC is doing to get people these voter ID's the states are forcing people to get. I hope they don't try and wait the last minute before the election to do anything I'm hearing it takes some states a couple of months to get the ID'S they want. This should be priority number one right now. There's a post on DU that says voter registration is DOWN significantly in the Democratic Party among Hispanics and African Americans for this election I hope we don't get complacent thinking Obama has this election wrapped up or we will be sorry come November the day after the election when we find out we came up short because of voter ID laws. That's my two cents on this hears the LINK to the pending law suit in PA http://www.realclearpolitics.com/news/ap/politics/2012/May/01/tough_new_pa__voter_id_law_challenged_in_court.html

But I think the focus should be on registering college students and minority voters.

Unfortunately, many seniors don't understand how much they depend on medicare as it was originally set up. Many seniors don't realize that social security is a government program. They bought into Reagan's idea that government is the problem, not the solution. They bought into the idea that a person can trust business and corporations to protect their interests. And many seniors are against gay rights and minority rights. Therefore, they vote Republican.

their members, but, at the very minimum, at least a significant minority of certain kinds of "care" professionals have a vested interest in their residents' ignorance.

We need better resident-councils, a tricky endeavor for the families of the elders, because "Risk Managers" can always decide that your elder is beyond the community's capacity to provide care.

stay registered? Or do they have to re-register to vote in some states?

The Dems have had voter registration campaigns in past elections and I thought they were pretty successful getting people registered.

If voter registration is DOWN significantly in the Dem Party - are these potential new voters that have never before registered?

those voters who have been DROPPED from the VBM (vote by mail) list here in Florida. I have no idea how something like this happens, but I'll find out more on Wednesday. I'm fired up.

It doesn't matter if they voted before or were registered before. If the state now requires specific ID, they MUST HAVE that ID in order to vote. No exceptions!

If they have moved from one state to another, or even one county or city to another, the must re-register to vote! And, depending on the state, their specific required ID may have to match their voter registration ID. It could require that address, exact name spelling (including middle initial) must match.

And for a lot of the minority population, who tend to be renters (as opposed to homeowners) move frequently and might not be registered at the current address.

Anyone in a state where you have to?

If you move, then you have to do something, or they can tell you that you are in the wrong place.

with call ins from people who were alarmed by all of the bullshit they were hearing. "We're going to help the wacky ones succeed in the primaries and everyone's going to run from them in the general election" WRONG. My personal theory is that the internet + Tea Party got a bunch of newbies all fired up and they got took by the Koch bros, or at least a significant minority of them did. Classic bait-and-switch.

... meetings, rallies, coffee clatches, etc. They were in libraries, restaurants, church halls, street corners, you name it. There were packs of them all over the place. And so we've got Rick Scott and Marco Rubio. I phone banked hundreds of voters and knew we were in trouble because of the lack of enthusiasm I sensed. Some came right out and said "I don't do mid-terms". THIS YEAR? No so much!! I know some of these tea people personally and there is a marked lack of enthusiasm. A good sign perhaps, but this won't stop me from getting out there and doing all I can. I'm no fool. I expect each and every DUer to do the same. I'm fired up.

She no longer drives so didn't have a DL. This was in Cali - no voter ID requirement there - but that's how long it took her to get a non-driver ID. I'd expect it to take at least that long in other states.
