Any other DUers running for political/elected office this spring (or 2014)?

I am running for school board in my town. I have never run for an elected office. I face 3 incumbents who have been unkind to our union teachers. Have quite a bit of help lined up. Went to a training put on by the Dems in my area. Have actually raised some money already and I haven't started to ask in earnest yet (I get serious on that this week).

Hoping I'm not alone on this at DU, because I'm feeling very alone in my little burg.

and I sure could have used more help in how to campaign.

We all could have, since the entire Democratic ticket lost.

But, chin up, and I'd suggest don't talk too much about unions-- maybe talk up the good job the teachers are doing and how you want to support them.

But I am talking about how most people polled think their teachers are great and that they are getting short shrift by what the current board has done.

Democratic Party of Wisconsin actually helped me a bit by offering training, but most of my help has come from my local dem/progressive group. Maybe you could find out more about a group in your area that would help?

has been asking people for some time to run. We actively recruit people to run for offices and have a hard time getting them to do it. We had a lot run last spring, this spring there are only two of us for different offices.

Contact a local dem/prog/lib group maybe that seems active and ask them how and for support? Maybe your local Dem office? Wisc Dems ran a training that was all day, but quite helpful in setting up a message and where to spend money, how to raise money. You could even go to their website and download the training manual for free.

You do need a group of friends/family at the least because it takes a lot of work. We are 9 weeks out and I already feel overwhelmed. But keep your eye on the prize.

Hope you find an office you feel passionate about!

Often there are many (especially local) races where there's no Democrat running at all.

I'm a political consultant and if you need anything, just PM me.
