GOP urges candidates to stand ground on abortion...Oh My!

Anti-abortion supporters and pro-abortion rights supporters crowd into the rotunda of the Texas capitol, Monday, July 1, 2013, in Austin, Texas.

Washington (CNN) – A faction of conservatives will introduce a resolution at this week's meeting of the Republican National Committee urging GOP candidates to speak up about abortion and respond forcefully against Democratic efforts to paint them as anti-woman extremists.

IMHO, you don't need the Democrats to paint you as anti-women extremists. You are that and more. Just saying! It is not a broad brush, it's fact!

The "Resolution on Republican Pro-Life Strategy," drafted by Delaware National Committeewoman Ellen Barrosse and co-sponsored by 15 other RNC members, urges the party organization to "support Republican pro-life candidates who fight back against Democratic deceptive 'war on women' rhetoric by pointing out the extreme positions on abortion held by Democratic opponents."

The deceptive War on Women, deceptive, really?

The Party Of Rape Culture: 40 Republican Rape Quotes Everyone Should Remember

1. “Rape is terrible. Rape is awful. Is it made any better by killing an innocent child? Does it solve the problem for the woman that’s been raped? We need to protect innocent life. Period.”
-Kansas Governor Sam Brownback, declaring that raped women must be additionally forced to carry and give birth to their rapist’s baby against their will in front of an all male crowd at the National Catholic Men’s Conference, June 2007.

3. “In the emergency room they have what’s called rape kits where a woman can get cleaned out.”
-Texas State Senator Jodie Laubenberg, absurdly claiming that rape kits are used to abort a pregnancy, June 2013.

7. “I’ve struggled with it myself for a long time, but I came to realize that life is that gift from God. And even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen.”
-Indiana Senate candidate Richard Mourdock, repeating Rick Santorum’s belief that rape is sanctioned by God, October 2012.

8. “It seems to be, first of all, from what I understand from doctors, it’s really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down.”
-Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin, claiming that women can shut down the reproductive process during rape to prevent pregnancy, August 2012.

"The Republican National Committee urges all Republican pro-life candidates, consultants, and other national Republican Political Action Committees to reject a strategy of silence on the abortion issue when candidates are attacked with 'war on women' rhetoric," the resolution reads.

Good choice, guys. Keep up your War on Women, the one you say ain't happening. Excellent campaign strategy.

As usual, you nailed it, she.

We'll see how this turns out next autumn. But I am with you and many others here. The GOP leadership cannot stop these idiots from saying these things because that's what they think, too.

Keep on keeping on, sheshe2. This is an important message.

I proudly stand with you.

I know that we can. I will not pretend that it will be easy.

Yet women are pissed as are their fathers, husbands, sons and brothers, the GOP can believe that fact or not.

The response to Davis in Texas and Grimes in Kentucky gives me strength and hope. I feel it longship, it's not beyond our reach.

Thank you so very much for your words, because together we can!

Great sentence from Sam Brownback (mixed with some bad writing by the reporter?).

"...raped women must be additionally forced to carry and give birth to their rapist’s baby against their will in front of an all male crowd.."

It took me a minute to figure this out!

because they'll lose more than not. They can try to dodge the issue, but we need to force them to come out and tell us where they stand.

Those comments are damning for Republicans.
