Bill Kristol: Republicans Had A Good Year 'Mostly Because Obama's Not Had A Good Year

TOM KLUDT – JANUARY 27, 2014, 8:02 AM EST

A year ago, conservatives like Bill Kristol were down in the dumps.

Barack Obama had secured another term and Republicans had resigned themselves to accepting changes lest they wanted to keep losing presidential elections. But then things went to hell for the President and suddenly 2013 wasn't quite as bleak as Kristol anticipated.

"Think about a year ago: Romney had lost, Republicans were desolate, everything had to be changed, they were doomed for generations," Kristol said Monday on MSNBC's "Morning Joe." "I mean, I actually think Republicans have had a pretty good year mostly because Obama's not had a good year."

But Kristol doesn't want victory handed to him. He challenged the GOP to "actually earn a good year themselves."

Whatever he thinks is the right thing to do ... do the opposite.
