John Elway to Fox News: I’m Republican because ‘I don’t believe in safety nets’

Denver Broncos executive vice president of football operations John Elway revealed on Sunday that he was a Republican because he doesn’t “believe in safety nets” — even though he admitted they were necessary.

In a interview on Fox News prior to Super Bowl XLVIII, host Chris Wallace pointed out that Elway was a “big Republican” who had contributed “a lot of money” to former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney in 2012.

The Broncos were favored to win. All the sports reporters were giving the Superbowl to Denver.

All we heard for weeks was "ELWAY! ELWAY! ELWAY!"

It was Super Bowl XXII. At the end of the first quarter, Denver led Washington 10-0. All the sports reporters were grinning a "we told you so" shit-smile and patting each other on the back. Elway was on his way to win the Super Bowl!

"We're free, at last," said Johnson, sitting in an orange sea in the zone. After Denver kicked a field goal to go up 10-0, Washington continued to play the first quarter with a bad case of stage fright.

But Denver muffed a couple of prime opportunities and then totally self-destructed.

Williams limped of the field near the end of the first quarter after a victorious hit and was briefly replaced by Jay Schroeder. But Williams returned for the first Washington play of the second quarter and immediately connected with Ricky Sanders on an 80-yard touchdown pass.

The slaughter was on.

The next four times Washington got the ball it scored. If this had been a fight it would have been stopped at halftime.

http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_25001736/super-bowl-xxii-broncos-skinned-42-10

Suddenly, the sports reporters got real quiet.

Poor, poor John! He got too caught up in reading his own press releases --

Someone who fucked up as bad as he did should have been dropped from the team immediately. Apparently a "safety net" kept Elway on the team.

Oh, and Washington's quarterback that year? --

So go f*ck yourselves Elway and all of you f*cking idol-worshiping sports reporters!

He donated money to Corker's campaign, which got national attention for it's racist tactics.

http://voices.yahoo.com/bob-corker-vs-harold-ford-jr-tennessees-dirty-senate-102444.html?cat=9

One of Corker's ads on the radio would play jungle/tribal sounding music in the background any time the spokesperson mentioned Ford's name. Manning helped make it happen with his money.

People around here worship him and name their kids after him. I can't stand the guy and I've been a TN resident and UT fan for 38 years. Piss on him.

I will never forget him hugging Dubya at a campaign rally at Red Rocks in 2004. Stunned I was. Of course, Dubya's first cousin, Joe Ellis, is president of the Denver Broncos Football Club. You will remember Joe's brother, John, an employee of Fox News, calling Florida for Dubya on election night in 2000.

Also the '49ers victory over Denver in the Super Bowl was quite nice too.
