Are you serious, Barack Obama?

Last edited Mon Feb 3, 2014, 09:15 PM - Edit history (1)

Here is an edit to clear up any confusion about this post. It is simply a play off of Bernie Sanders quote,

"No one who is serious about protecting the future of our planet and reversing global warming could support this pipeline project."

So, the question is...

"Are you serious, Barack Obama?"

There is no Obama criticism here. Have a nice evening.

11. Who has said repeatedly the pipeline won't provide jobs or energy to Americans, and it won't. But
Mon Feb 3, 2014, 06:10 PM
Feb 2014
the Koch brothers are buying the voters for it state by state, by making deals with those who will do so.

The House has attached the pipeline fast track to every appropriations bill since 2009 and PBO has has it taken off, at a cost to other things. It's easier to blame That Man in the White House than deal with the locals who will bust the heads of protestors.

The oil industry is working to make this an economic crisis since then, neglecting the already existing pipeline from Canada to the Gulf that has been carrying tar sands oil and causing a massive spill in Arkansas. Same stuff in the pipeline being forced through a very old pipeline. They upped the pressure to force it through and it broke. Plentiful pictures and stories posted here at DU, and done with full backing by their elected TP.

Then came the explosion in Canada carrying this crap, which is explosive, by rail. Now they're jamming Amtrak passenger service shipping it across America to ports.

It's run some businesses that depend on rail transportation out of business by slowing down the transportation grid for them and commuters. They are continually pushing for more of Canadian tar sands oils to be shipped by rail. A buried pipeline appears safer, but it's out of sight and they can get away with spills in states where they own the legislatures.

Some states like mine are on alert to prevent this cargo being shipped by rail through our borders, but others don't care. This is a state by state program and the feds are the ones holding it back.

Obama was issued threats directly by Charles Koch if he didn't let it go through in 2009. Obama didn't and the vengeance was the Tea Party. Of course, they wanted to stop Obama's counting on the sunsetting of the Bush tax cuts at the last day of 2010. With a series of media support and outrage machines, they set off the RWers to vote in the TP.

Then came Citizens United. None of those things are Obama's fault, Cha. This has been well documented on DU but Obama is not given any credit or credibility by those who haven't done the research and react to the latest ODS.

That is all. Have a good week, it's getting colder here, Cha.

Check the sources on similar stories, with the slant by RW sources, Fox, Bloomberg, unnamed persons, etc. :

http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/keystone-pipeline-environmental-report/2014/01/31/id/550140

It jumps to the conclusion the RW wants, by citing a 90-day timeline for Obama to decide. He knew about this last year and didn't put it in his SOTU for a reason. This is the RW 'inevitabilty' gambit, the one they've played since 2009.

Nothing in that says Obama will okay it. This pipeline was being set up during the Bush administration and Obama rejected it with his first budget negotation in 2009, in favor of solar and other alternative energy stimulus projects.

The media and GOP fought him tooth and nail since then and have not stopped using pressure on him but more importantly, in the states, as I explained in a reply below.

Obama has to let the states do what they want; he's been the one holding them back. That is part of the argument of the Tenthers (states' rights) groups and the Tea Party. They want to keep on and expand the fossil fuels, even call them God's Plan. Because solar is socialist. Sounds alike, huh?

Welcome to DU. You'll see a lot of baiting here. It's 'trendy,' and usually doesn't respond to reason or facts. It just is.

Mon Feb 3, 2014, 06:58 PM

there will be a public comment period before any decision is made. I will try to find more info on that. But I recommend to everyone to be on the lookout for that announcement and participate and get everyone you know to participate because I suspect, if it's anything like the shit they pulled about removing wolves from the ESA list, it won't be a long comment period and will be poorly advertised.

I usually participate in public comment opportunities and have seen this set of tactics put to use way too often.

Just a word to the wise...

"are you serious, Ed Shultz". Just a few minutes ago, he actually came out in support of the XL pipeline on his show and debated someone from the Sierra Club, saying that the pipeline would be safer than the alternative for transporting oil. Obama meanwhile still has yet to make a decision either way.

I've detailed some of it in my other post here. The states are being allowed to decide.

The only thing that has held this up has been Obama since 2009. The Koch and energy people have puahed this since 2007 or earlier, and people are being bought out state by state. Obama has taken a lot of heat behind the scenes for stalling it, trying to let more people decide.

Even when threatened with sequester and shutdown he did not bend since 2009. He says it will provide no oil or long term jobs for Americans. No taxes will be paid to the Treasury, as it is a Canadian product being shipped at the Port of Houston to China.

Right now they are trying to ship by rail to West Coast ports and some of us are trying to stop it. Some ports are owned by China already. We are not the only voice on it.
