Union membership was up a little last year. Maybe we can continue that trend.

that they don't already know this. I have two relatives who work in construction who are almost always unemployed and always being scammed by their employers, but who speak glowingly of the fact that they live in a right to work state. They actually believe that they have some kind of right that people in union states don't have.

was proud my Grandfather helped bring one to the corp I worked for.

Until I worked there.

The union "then" was a man's union. The corp was one of the hardest places for a woman to work. Often dangerous if she did not "go along, to get along".

EX: If you were hit on by the asst chief steward and turned him down, you were subjected to:
Having a shovel thrown at your face, and the handle caught before it hit you.
Your tool settings moved and caused you to produce scrap which counted against you.
Shot in the back with home made air guns, and ceramic pellets.
Verbal abuse...
This one got me fired, but the union got me back.... Spit in the face! Which my automatic reflex caused me to punch the guy with all the pent up anger over several months and the union/company did nothing to help me!

The Union protected egregious behavior by males. There was no low they did not go, and kept their jobs. If the wives of these guys knew the crap they did, the majority of them would have been divorced.

The union was broken in 2007. It needed to be. As I said, my grandfather helped bring that Union into that company. I was glad that it was broken.

Sometimes things need to be completely rendered to zero before it can be rebuilt.
The corruption in the Union was as bad if not worse than the corporation was.

That corp was one of 2 major employer's in the area. The other employer and union did not tolerate the same conduct. Their "accident with serious injury" ratings were always lower than the corp I once worked for.

Unions are vital to this countries work force. They need to be reformed, and modernized for the greatest good they can forge for our younger and coming generations..
