Former Army Gen. David Petraeus , who has traditionally stayed away from political endorsements, appears to be eager to support a Hillary Clinton candidacy, a new book alleges.
Shed make a tremendous President, the former commander and CIA director reportedly says in the new book HRC: State Secrets and the Rebirth of Hillary Clinton, by Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes.
Like a lot of great leaders, her most impressive qualities were most visible during tough times, Petraeus adds.
The comments mark an interesting departure for Petraeus, who, when it comes to politics, has typically remained quiet.

(17,183 posts)Ol' General Petraeus, what a card. Funny thing, though, the piece makes no mention of just what exactly those "impressive qualities" are. OK, it's just a fluff piece to push his book.
Ya know, I hate it when I ask somebody how a movie was, and all they can say is "It was great." Well, why was it great? "Oh, I don't know, it just was." Just like Mrs Clinton is among the "greatest" secretaries of state in history. Yep, greater than Madison, Seward, Marshall, and Kissenger (yeah, I know I'll get booed for the last). Still waiting to find out why, though.

(24,096 posts)What impressive qualities, exactly?
None mentioned.
Petraeus was probably asked by the Clintons to do this, it's all about priming for the primaries.
He's a hawk just like she was with Syria and Iraq and Iran, etc., so of course they would be buddy buds.
And how he let the Kagan's (the "De Facto Military Advisors" have such power of decisions in Afghanistan is truly perplexing. There is a Kagan relative attachement to the Clintons as well.

(17,183 posts)But I think it can reasonably be argued that making a radical change in foreign policy from containment to detente does beg for some appreciation, even if the people responsible were slime balls.

(6,594 posts)Many on this site were against him from the start because of the close association that Bush tried to forge with David in the public eye. The simple truth is David was never a Bush lover and the reason the Bush people wanted him around is because he had one thing none of them ever had, competence and the credibility that competence brings.
