Why the hell would we care about Ukraine? It's not worth one drop of American blood or one dollar of American money.

(11,936 posts)2. Probably because we are constitutionally bound to abide by treaties and similar agreements.
And there are some compelling arguments that seem to suggest that we are party to treaties that require us to do something.
That doesn't mean I agree with it, but thats the situation.

Putin may be able to annex Crimea, but the cost to Russia is going to be very, very high. The West will not let this go unpunished--but the response will not be via the military.
