Poll Shows Republicans Really Have No Idea What They Want Obama To Do With Russia

TOM KLUDT – APRIL 2, 2014, 9:06 AM EDT

A huge majority of Republicans believe Vladimir Putin is a stronger leader than President Obama. They overwhelmingly believe that Obama has not been tough enough in his handling of the situation with Russia and Ukraine.

And yet, they're also unsure how much they'd like the United States to get involved in the tense standoff.

Those are some of the findings in a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday that examined the public's attitudes about Russia's incursion into Crimea.

If it has seemed like there's little Obama can do to please Republicans, the poll provides some confirmation of that.

They think that President Obama is "weak" and Putin has become sort of a right-wing celebrity because he looks "tough" and probably because he is essentially thumbing his nose a the US- led by, of course, President Obama but Republicans don't really know what they think President Obama should really do about Putin. And I should probably add that they probably envy Putin's near-dictatorial power and his ability to do things they probably only dream about. All but the most delusional right-wingers know that going to war with Russia over this isn't practical nor acceptable to most Americans and calling for war would look even weirder given that they were so upset about President Obama intervening in Libya (which prompted a hue and cry from the right and a vote in Congress to defund it) and then trying to intervene in Syria, which most of them appeared ready to vote against. The truth is that they don't know.........anything.
