Greg Abbott has been under fire for citing Charles Murray in his education plan. Murray is a controversial libertarian thinker who believes women's brains are smaller than men's and that "women have played a proportionally tiny part in the history of the arts and sciences."
Charles Murray came to speak at the University of Texas last night, where he was greeted by a protest by the University Democrats. During his speech he doubled down on the same racist, misogynistic rhetoric he has been criticized for in the last weeks

(143,998 posts)Greg is running a really bad campaign. First there was the Ted Nugent mess. Nugent hurt Greg and will continue to hurt Greg each time Nugent gets into the news. Second, Greg blew the pay equity issue and his surrogates were kind enough to give the Democrats a number of quotes that can be attack ads. Finally, Greg's education policies are based on the work of a man who hates women and minorities.
Juanita Jean has some good comments about Murray. http://www.juanitajean.com/2014/04/03/inferior-me/
Im a woman. Please forgive my small brain. I cant help it. I was born that way.
It is a well-known scientific fact that testosterone makes a brain bigger and therefore smarter. And, that toting around a set of ta-tas is a brain drain.
I am so glad to know that the man who wants to be our next Governor recognizes gender science as being valid and, you know, scientific. The Republican nominee for Governor, Greg Abbott, quotes Charles Murray in Abbotts education plan to cut pre-K and kindergarten programs in Texas to the tune of $200,000,000. But, all those zeros are justified because Charles Murray has set American straight about things like women, minorities, and the poor.
Especially women. No woman has been a significant original thinker in any of the worlds great philosophical traditions, he wrote. Women have produced a smaller number of important visual artists, and none that is clearly in the first rank. No female composer is even close to the first rank. Social restrictions undoubtedly damped down womens contributions in all of the arts, but the pattern of accomplishment that did break through is strikingly consistent with what we know about the respective strengths of male and female cognitive repertoires.
Yep, women be dumb. Duh dumb. And dont even get Charles Murray started on minorities.
In Charles Murrays world, white rich males are the smartest. So, I guess Im wondering how all these white rich males running our state government got us into the biggest damn mess Ive ever seen. Maybe theyve been over-bred, I dunno.
Honey, when all that stands between you and a rock bottom education system is the state of Mississippi, youre in big trouble. Two more rich white boys move to Mississippi and youre dead last.
Yall, this is just a heads up. I dont think Im going to make it to November without blowing a gasket. Youre gonna show up here one day and all youre going to see is my pounding forehead on the keyboard.
Greg is making far more mistakes compared to Goodhair. Greg is actually making Goodhair look bright.
The Davis campaign is counting on the support of single suburban women and Greg is helping her with these voters.

Why is Greg Abbott avoiding the media and canceling appearances?
Every campaign has occasional scheduling problems. Sometimes events or appearances have to be cancelled for a variety of legitimate reasons.
But over the last several weeks, Greg Abbott has cancelled a number of events and has rarely taken press questions at the events he does attend. Clearly something is going on inside the Abbott campaign thats affecting his willingness to appear in public or personally answer questions from the press.
-- Abbott has refused to meet with editorial boards both during and since the Texas primary.
-- Abbott spent more than three weeks (March 6 29) without any public events.
During this period (March 9 24) he refused to personally answer any questions on equal pay, even questions regarding salaries within his own AG office.
-- Abbott canceled an April 4th scheduled and publicized address to the Texas Renewal Project, an organization of Christian pastors (I posted about this conference here).
-- Abbott declined an April 5th opportunity to address the Texas AP Managing Editors Association in Padre Island.
-- Abbotts campaign scheduled an April 7th press conference and Abbott simply failed to appear, not even bothering to send the press a cancellation notice.
It would be easy to imply, and reasonable to assume, that Abbott's campaign is wilting under pressure especially the ongoing bad press over his bungling of the equal pay issue and his disastrous education policy rollout.
If it is something else campaign personnel changes, pressing official business or a family issue then Abbott needs to be forthright and explain in some detail.
If something is seriously wrong, Greg Abbott should say so, and everyone will know what to expect going forward.
Greg is hiding from the press for a reason. I doubt that Murray is the sole reason for this behavior.
