GOP and Fox: Where was your ‘outrage and sanctimony’ over Iraq?

Specifically, Stewart pointed to interviews given by then-Vice President Dick Cheney, then-Secretary of State Colin Powell and then-National Security Advisor Condolezza Rice on Sept. 8, 2002 — the same day a story planted by the Bush administration ran in the New York Times, allowing them to bring up a non-existent threat of Iraq looking to buy “high-quality aluminum tubes that are really only for nuclear weapons programs.”

“They knew a year in advance that what they were saying on the show that day was not true,” Stewart said of the administration officials. “Where was the outrage?”

Watch Stewart’s commentary, as posted by Crooks & Liars on Monday, below.

You can see the video at the link below http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/jon-stewart-mocks-hypocritical-outrage-benghazi

Jon Stewart tore into Fox News on Monday's "The Daily Show" for the network's "hypocritical outrage" on the attacks in Benghazi, Libya.

The comedian pointed out that the Benghazi attacks were the subject of numerous congressional hearings and briefings, plus hundreds of news stories -- Benghazi was mentioned on 1,101 Fox News programs alone in the past year. But that hasn't been enough to grind the Benghazi outrage machine to a halt.

"You know, there are very few things we've heard more about in the past year and a half," Stewart said. "The only thing we've heard more about in the past year and a half may be the Kardashians."

He then ripped conservatives for their laser-like focus on the intelligence failure that contributed to the loss of American lives in Benghazi, pointing out that intelligence failures contributing to the Iraq War -- even outright lies from top officials like Condoleezza Rice and Dick Cheney about he presence of nuclear material in Iraq -- didn't provoke similar rage during the Bush administration.

"I commend you for finally getting in touch with your inner outrage, because if I remember correctly from the previous decade, it was an emotion you did not seem comfortable addressing or expressing," Stewart said.

"Your hypocritical outrage and sanctimony aside, the reason it’s hard for everybody to get outraged by this terribly tragic and ultimately preventable disaster that was Benghazi is that everybody in this country has seen this movie before," he added later. "Only that movie was on an IMAX.”

They even asked for it with Project For A New American Century in the late 90s. These people like Cheney are demonic war criminals. Thousands of lives mean nothing to them. I bet Cheney watches torture and murder videos like some people watch porn. At least this Benghazi nonsense makes people think of the 911 lies. Republicans are making a mistake because of the looming 911 shadow it casts.

C'mon. It was the real cover up. And it produced The Patriot Act, The Iraq War, The Afghani War, secrecy at home, no bid contracts, NSA transgressions...you name it...that's when Evil took over completely and the enemy is within.

But if Gore would've won I'm SURE they still would've found a way to let 911 happen. The big difference is that they would've BLAMED the Gore administration and forced resignations or impeachment stating Democrats couldn't protect us. How many Bush officials were held accountable or fired? NONE!!! This is the fault of our Democratic leaders like the Clinton's always letting these criminals off the hook...Obama too. It's like they have some secret deal with them not to rock the boat and they are tossed a few bones like holding office, realizing some insignificant pet projects or getting speaking fees. Make no mistake though...our Democratic leaders are just the dog imitating the Republican master but they only eat the leftovers. Anyone else sick of this yet??? Our Party wasn't like this until the end of the 20th century when Bill Clinton cut his deal with the devil. If its Jeb vs Hillary people will be so disgusted they will leave politics which is exactly what the elite want. The younger people will revolt more than usual too I bet.

on Faux and with conservatives at the time.

Against those who dared to question Iraq for being terrorist enabling scumbags.

They got a good five years of ramming through whatever bullshit they wanted all for the sake of the COMMANDER IN CHIEF and KEEPING US SAFE.

No questioning the president when there are troops in the field and all of that.

Which, of course, all came to a screeching halt when a democrat took office in 2009 ...
