Ed Gillespie, senior adviser to Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign, told Chuck Todd on MSNBC’s Daily Rundown that the campaign would make President Obama’s support for marriage equality an issue this November and that Romney will actively push for a constitutional amendment to take away the right of states to voluntarily extend marriage equality to same-sex couples.

Gillespie told Todd that same-sex marriage “will be another bright-line difference in this campaign.” He added that the GOP intends to campaign on the issue:

hate and misrepresentation are definitely going to make this an issue, and the msm I suspect will be a willing accomplice

Because of the bigotry in this country we may actually lose the election on this issue, depends on whether independents actually believe that everyone is entitled to the same protections and rights

I am quite proud of the President. No ambiguity here. Either you are a bigot or not

And there's the younger generation getting fired up to vote. Romney could not be any more tone deaf. Republicans still can't figure out that the old, white bigots that make up their base are fading away. And they're making damn sure with crap like this that they piss off young people enough to get to the polls. I love it.
