How bad reporting hurts people
This week while writing a blog post I was sort of listening to MSNBC. An interview about the water shutoffs in Detroit Michigan ensued. I listened a bit more attentively. I then heard the Detroit reporter, Hank Winchester, say about the people in Detroit, But there are other people and this is where it gets controversial who simply dont want to pay the water bill, whod rather spend money on cable.
At that point I dropped the blog I was writing, recorded the interview, processed it, and then blogged about it. The blog post titled
Detroit activist slams reporter on air for misreporting reasons for water shutoff to thousands went viral.
Hank Winchester sent me an email asking me why I shortened the video. That was a silly question coming from a reporter. It was shortened without removing any context like any good journalist or blogger does.
Anyway, I want to discuss the water department in Detroit shutting off water and the stereotypes that affect poor and disaffected communities.
