2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumStill a long shot, but great fundraising prowess so far!
We have a fighting chance at keeping the MT Senate seat blue.
Although many insiders dismiss her campaign as a long shot, Amanda Curtis is raising money at a prodigious rate and battling assertions that she is too radical for conservative-leaning Montana.
But on many issues, the candidate admits she needs to study up. But time is running out with Election Day a little more than two months away.
Curtis, a Butte math teacher serving her first-term in the Montana state house, has already raised $180,000 in 10 days, according to her campaign, and sees "people coming out of the woodwork" to support her.

Way to go, Amanda!

(2,186 posts)is from citizens of MT, and how much is from out of state.
If most of it is from out of state, then her chance of winning the seat are pretty slim, OTOH, if most is from in state, she's got a real chance of taking the seat.

(20,176 posts)For example, here in CT...for all the times he was elected and reelected, less than half of Joe Lieberman's campaign funds ever came from local donors.
Without making any imputations upon it--a lot of it came from NY and a lot of it came from prominent Jewish donors nationally. He was a cash cow though...if you wanted to pump money into a race in CT, all you had to do was have Joe campaign with the Democratic candidate and the same money would roll into their coffers.
I expect the same would be true of a lot of liberal heroes...I'd sooner donate money to Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren in their Senate races than my Senator, Chris Murphy. I like Chris...but he's a moderate representing a liberal state. Our other Senator, Richard Blumenthal, is one of my favorite people on Earth...I already give Richard the maximum every election. I wish we had 10 more Dick Blumenthal's in the US Senate.

(15,365 posts)There is a LOT of enthusiasm for her from MT Dems - much more, in fact, than there ever was for Walsh.
The fact is that it is late in the election year and she only received about $2000 from the Walsh Senatorial campaign. She needs money to publicize herself and to make her case against Daines, who has been just another obstructive RW GOPer in the House and has zilch to commend him for the Senate other than having name recognition.
S180,000 can buy a lot of air time and campaign commercials in MT, no matter where the $$$ come from.
The rest is up to her and to Montanans themselves.

Unfortunately, I can't vote there myself since MD is my US voting residence.
