Hagan skipped a debate?

I get to work today and all I am hearing about from the usual loudmouths is that Hagan skipped last night's debate.

What is the deal here? Did she just get an invite that she couldn't make? Did she agree to it beforehand and then skip out?

Help!

Were they particular questions, or just questions in general?

I'm out here in MO thinking that NC is practically wrapped up and well, how does this look to people in NC?

Don't have time to google everything, but the info is out there somewhere.

Yes, looks bad. Wistful hope that it does not affect other races.

If you look at likely voters she is down by four points. She is a horrible candidate who only won due to President Obama being on her ballot.

It would have been their fourth debate, following two broadcast statewide and a third aired in parts of the state over the past two months. Neither attended another debate that was scheduled in Charlotte last week.

In interviews earlier this month and on Monday, Hagan said she won't attend tonight's debate.

"We negotiated back in the summer, and we set the schedule back in the summer," Hagan said. "So we planned our schedule out between now and the end of the election and we are maintaining the negotiation that we put forward back in July."

Hagan and her spokesman have said that it has been traditional to have three debates in North Carolina Senate elections, and they point out that Republican incumbent Elizabeth Dole in 2008 refused all debates. Hagan defeated Dole.

If they agreed on 3 debates, and had 3 debates, then they are done with official debates.

She chose not to attend a debate that she never agreed to do in the first place.

The debate was held and there was an empty chair for her... so it could look bad to some (particularly with a tightening race that had begun to look safer for us than I expected), but I don't know how many people were watching or what questions were asked... so I couldn't guess what (if any) impact it could have.
