With his 20-point June primary lead dwindling, Rep. Mike Honda of San Jose is going on the attack against his opponent, fellow Democrat Ro Khanna of Fremont.
Hondas new television ad hit the airwaves this week, slamming Khanna as the tool of the billionaires, right-wing activists (and) corporate interests who the incumbent says are funding his campaign.
With Ro Khanna, its all about the money and never about us, the narrator intones....
Its reasonable to think this thing has tightened, he said. With two Democrats in the race, theres no place for the Republicans to go, and its logical to expect Khanna to pick up most of them, since hes more conservative than Honda.
This is exactly what Abel Maldonado was hoping for when he held the state budget hostage a few years ago and demanded this bizarre top-two system be placed on the ballot: DINOs like Khanna replacing real Dems like Honda in districts where repukes have about as much chance of winning as the Taliban.
