"I think we need a 'House-packing' scheme...I think I'll increase the House membership by 100, all Democrats."

Either that, or: "It sure was easier to get things through Congress when I had supermajorities in both houses!"

13. Except that would be historically incorrect. Those, like Obama, he had majorities in both

Houses, he faced the wrath of Southern Democrats--many of whom would not work with him. However, many bi-coastal Republicans who at that time were pretty liberal (Roosevelt Republicans) joined with liberal Democrats and created winning majorities.

What has pissed me off so much when it comes to Democrats who are angry at Obama and want him to be like FDR and LBJ is their misreading of historical events. Both FDR and LBJ enjoyed supermajorities in the House and Senate but they also had those liberal/moderate Republicans to pick up the slack when the Southern Democrats simply refused to.

And of course we know what happened post-1964: those Dixiecrats became what we now know as Southern Republicans, and things haven't been the same since.

So, what would FDR say today: "Not much has changed! Republicans and some Southern Democrats obstructed me then and they are doing the same to President Obama today".

Unless this hypothetical time travel/resurrection impaired his memory, he would understand the symbolic significance...
