Michigan has selected its new U.S. senator: Democrat Gary Peters has won Tuesday's election, according to The Associated Press.

Peters was expected to beat former Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land, a Republican. With 9 percent of precincts reporting, Peters leads Land 53 percent to 43 percent.
