Coakley had been trailing in some of the recent polls, and she was a weak candidate. I don't think she should have put herself forward after having lost the Senate race to Brown 4 years ago. Why couldn't Dems have had a stronger candidate for Governor?

Baker only won by a couple of points. A stronger Democrat could have held the Republicans off.

Markey was able to win by a huge margin, with over 60% of the vote. That means that many of those same voters picked Baker over Coakley.

. . . for Martha to retire from politics permanently. We undid her giveaway of Ted Kennedy's seat; now it's time for her to fade back into the woodwork.

Voters are fine with her in that position. But she should have taken the hint. After losing the Senate race, there was no need to risk losing the Governor's race as well.
