Related: About this forumContra Costa (CA) election site part of nationwide crash
http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Contra-Costa-election-site-part-of-nationwide-5869440.phpContra Costa Countys election website went dark for more than five hours Tuesday, becoming one of many sites nationwide to fall prey to a malfunction linked to a Florida software company.
The downed site made it difficult for voters in the East Bay and elsewhere to get information, notably the location of polling sites, a common search on election day, Contra Costa County officials said.
The crash, which also affected election websites in Ventura and Shasta counties, hit Contra Costa County about 7:30 a.m. Election officials said the site was back up and running by 1 p.m.
Tampa, Fla.-based SOE Software said the problem was due to an unexpectedly high number of users on the election sites it hosts, according to Scott Konopasek, Contra Costa County assistant registrar.

(3,571 posts)1. Co Worker couldn't vote because of this
My co-worker couldn't find his poll location anywhere online (he had moved since the previous election, and didn't receive anything in the mail like he should have)
End result was he didn't vote.
This sucks, and is kind of suspicious.

(10,070 posts)2. Did he think of using that 19th century technology
the telephone, to find out? Or contact the county registrar before election day, like when he noticed he didn't receive the state or county voters' guides? It's not like THEY keep this information a big secret.
Yeah, I'm in a PO'd mood today, not so much because of the GOP wins back east but because less than 30% of registered California voters bothered to vote. Sometimes I'm glad I'm old.

.... like so many, he seemed fairly apathetic about it all.
