If you believe, like me, that Democrats have better ideas and will win an otherwise even contest, then help me push back against the wave of gerrymandering that is compromising the democratic ideals this country was founded upon. Please sign and promote via social media.

Yes, it is a White House petition, and the executive branch has limited direct authority to deal with gerrymandering; however, the president does appoint judges which have the power to overturn gerrymandered districts. SCOTUS has left the door open for challenges just a crack and a wave of challenges from courts of appeal may widen that crack. Also, the president can promote legislative changes at the state level to foster the drawing of nonpartisan districts, and, in general, the president can use the bully pulpit to shine a light on this most undemocratic idea - that politicians can choose their voters instead of the other way around.
Thank you.

(75,480 posts)We got rid of it in California. Sure nationwide would be better but state by state can work too.

(1,936 posts)but I live in North Carolina. The GOP took district rigging to a whole new level. I got 5000 sigs on a petition a couple years ago that got a few folks in Raleigh to respond but not the guys in charge.

(14,449 posts)Elect Democratic Governors and Democratic State Legislators who are not in gerrymandered districts, but make the gerrymandered districts.

(1,936 posts)... only something like 10-15% think taking a stand against gerrymandering is worth a minute of their time. More energy goes into discussing a completely speculative presidential campaign (HRC). Disappointing.
