The Guardian: The bench is out there: Democrats hunt for a new generation – and Clinton's VP

http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/apr/18/democrats-new-generation-hillary-clinton-vp

"The full-on campaign for US president is barely a week old, but 43-year-old Marco Rubio added a new wrinkle with three words: “Yesterday is over.”

In declaring his candidacy the day after Hillary Clinton began the race for the White House in earnest, the Florida senator previewed a key line of attack that Republicans are already using against the 67-year-old Clinton, casting her as a “leader of yesterday”.

When Hillary fought Obama, and Bill kept on yapping about how young voters did not understand things, she alienated the milennials. When Obama took on Clinton and her cronies to actually run stuff, the Milenials were doubly pissed, as Clinton still managed to suck all the air out. The dirty secret is, Clinton, like many (but not all) of her Boomers, has never, WILL NEVER have any intention of handing batons of power. They pretty much erased Generation X, but they are finding the Milennials are a tougher nut to crack, namely because, unlike the Xers, they do not worship or fear them, and the Milennials also know that as waters rise and air darkens, they will be the ones cleaning the mess the Boomers made. Of course, as jobs will be few, and beneifts slashed, they will need to do this in between being hired to clean and polish the monuments the boomers erected just before dying, the ones they spent on themselves rather than leave anything to their children.

THIS 43 year old Latino in Florida has some news for you. For all the stuff you can say about Hillary, she did more than you will ever hope to do. Some people are has beens waitign for a comeback, but some people or never was types, the sort that get caught dirnking water nervously because the spotlight dries their skin! If my some fluke, and by fluke I mean Democrats fuckign up and not voting, you gain the Oval Office, expect to be nothign more than the guy who sign documents the Koch have their interns type up, and to have your foriegn policy come from Bibi's desk. Of course, you are so low a life form that you would think that is an achievement!

A lot of people play identity ploitics, ME, I am scared that you will bury Latinos for years.

I have seen Rubio on the tube a few times, and watched Jon Stewart's interview with him.
Gotta hand it to Rubio, he thinks highly of his ownself.

thing about not having a long political history is there don't seem to be any scandals or "problems". And I don't care who the Nominee is, Castro should be VP.

They couldn't rely as much on old hands as the GOP could as far as filling positions. Hell Jeb Bush even has James Baker on board. He's OLD.

I think the problem with the young GOP candidates is they actually hold more archaic views than somebody like Clinton.

I'm a boomer, but the problem I have with a lot of the boomer candidates is they still hew to the old cold war paradigm on everything.

That's why I voted for Obama over Clinton. He seemed to have less of that.

I do think that one of Clintons challenges should they win, would be combining some of their loyal people in the administration, with some new younger folks. I mean it seems like somebody like Huma could be SOS some day.

However policy wise a lot of younger people are more libertarian, but they are like one or two generations removed from being able to remember how it was when a lot of people worked a 40 hour week, had insurance and retirement, and had weekends off. Maybe 3 generations removed from when a mom could stay at home and the family could get by fairly well. However that is some of the past we are going to have to get back to. Either by mandating employers or doing some new gov't programs to cover it, or strengthening the right to organize so workers can get it themselves.

So I think that Clinton, or any other dem that wins will have to figure will how to let the younger folks know about how it was, and partially needs to be, combined with pushing a lot of the libertarian personal freedom things.
