If you fought in Iraq, it worked. Its not your fault its going to hell. Its Obamas fault, Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (S.C.) said to cheers.
Even the events timing hours after U.S. Special Operations killed a key Islamic State official did little to alter the pitch. Its a great day, but its not a strategy, said former Florida governor Jeb Bush.
After more than a decade bearing the political burden of Iraq, Republicans are making a dogged effort to shed it by arguing that the Islamic States gruesome ascent is a symptom of Obamas foreign policy, rather than a byproduct of the 2003 invasion they once championed.

Then we had no business, staying then, right?
Not to mention that pesky SOFA that Bush negotiated with Iraq in 2008 promising the withdrawal of our troops by the end of 2011. If Republicans think THAT was a mistake, will they care to explain just how long they think we should have been staying in Iraq?
What they seem to want but most won't advocate for is to put troops back into Iraq, which is likely to be a non-starter for most Americans at this point. We spent a lot of years, money, and resources trying to train up Iraqi forces and seem to be seeing little or no return on that investment.
