Blaming floods on gay people, Muslims or witches

Molesting whilst projecting a sanctimonious stance (even longer list here)

pretending they are God and everyone will go to hell (Michele Bachmann speaks for God)

However there is an explanation (tongue in cheek!) - Scientists have discovered the following :

Despite their important implications for interpersonal behaviors and relations, cognitive abilities have been largely ignored as explanations of prejudice. We proposed and tested mediation models in which lower cognitive ability predicts greater prejudice, an effect mediated through the endorsement of right-wing ideologies (social conservatism, right-wing authoritarianism) and low levels of contact with out-groups.

something along the lines of, "Not all conservatives are stupid, but a lot of stupid people are conservative." Not a good idea to either underestimate the smart cons, or expect the majority to smarten up.
